Kehilat Ben David

Statement of Beliefs

The foundational beliefs that unite our congregation and shape how we worship, study, and live together.

Our Foundation

What We Believe and Why It Matters

At Kehilat Ben David, our beliefs are not abstract doctrines — they are the living foundation of every gathering, every teaching, and every relationship in our community. We hold these truths from the whole counsel of Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation, understanding them through the lens of their original Hebrew context.

This statement reflects what we hold in common as a congregation of Jewish and Gentile believers united in Messiah Yeshua.

The Foundation of All We Believe
שְׁמַע יִשְׂרָאֵל יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ יְהוָה אֶחָד

“Hear, O Israel: the LORD our God, the LORD is one.”

— Deuteronomy 6:4  ·  The Shema

Statement of Faith

Our Eight Core Beliefs

Each belief is grounded in the whole of Scripture — the Torah, the Prophets, the Writings, and the New Covenant writings.

Article I

The One Living God

We believe in the one and only living God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the Creator of Heaven and Earth.

Genesis 1:1Deuteronomy 6:4Isaiah 42:5

Article II

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

We believe that the one true God exists eternally in three persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — and that these, being one God, are equal in deity, power, and glory.

Note: This mystery of the tri-unity of God is affirmed throughout Scripture — from the plural form of Elohim in Genesis to the baptismal formula of Matthew 28:19 and the apostolic benediction of 2 Corinthians 13:14. We affirm the full deity of each person of the Godhead while confessing there is only one God.

Yeshua — Messiah & Redeemer

We believe that Yeshua (Jesus) is the Son of God and Israel's promised Messiah and the Redeemer of the entire human race. According to the prophet Isaiah, Yeshua gave His life as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Isaiah 7:14Isaiah 9:6–7Isaiah 53:4–10Psalm 16:9–11

“But He was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with His wounds we are healed.” — Isaiah 53:5

Article IV

Salvation by Grace Alone

We believe salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Yeshua Ha Mashiach alone. There is nothing we can do on our own merit to receive the gift of salvation.

Isaiah 64:6John 6:29John 14:6

We do not earn salvation through Torah observance, religious practice, ethnicity, or any human effort. The keeping of biblical appointed times and feasts is an expression of worship and identity — not a means of right standing with God. Salvation is the free gift of God to all who trust in Yeshua.

The Inspired Word of God

We believe the Torah is the inspired Word of God, inerrant as originally given; along with the Prophets (Nevi'im), the Writings (Ketuvim), and the Brit Chadashah (New Covenant). Together they form the complete revelation of God's will for the redemption of mankind.

Forgiveness & New Life for All

We believe that anyone — whether Jewish or Gentile — who by faith genuinely trusts Messiah Yeshua as Savior and Redeemer is immediately forgiven of sin and becomes a child of God. This salvation is not the result of any human effort, merit, or works; it is the gift of God.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast.” — Ephesians 2:8–9

Article VII

One Way of Salvation

We believe there is only one way — whether Jewish or Gentile — to receive salvation: through faith in Yeshua Ha Mashiach alone. We affirm this not to exclude, but because we believe it to be the truth of Scripture and the most loving thing we can declare to a world in need of redemption.

The Words of Yeshua Himself

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

— John 14:6

Article VIII

The Incarnation, Resurrection & Return

We believe that God the Son became flesh in the person of Yeshua, conceived of the Spirit of God and born of the Jewish virgin Miriam (Mary). We believe in His full deity and full humanity, His sinless life and miracles, His death as the sacrifice for sin, His bodily resurrection on the third day, and His future return in glory to establish His literal kingdom on earth.

🌟
The Incarnation
God became flesh — fully divine and fully human — born of Miriam in Bethlehem
✝️
The Resurrection
Yeshua rose bodily from the grave on the third day, conquering sin and death
👑
The Return
He will return in glory to establish His literal kingdom and reign from Jerusalem

Who We Are

What Makes Us Messianic

These beliefs are shared with many faithful congregations. What is distinctive about Kehilat Ben David is how we hold and express them — rooted in the whole of Scripture including its Jewish context.

✡️

Rooted in Israel

We understand faith through its Hebrew origins. The Torah, the feasts, the Shabbat, the Hebrew language of prayer — these are not additions to the Gospel. They are the soil from which it grew. We honor them as gifts of God to His people, fulfilled in Yeshua.

📖

Grounded in Scripture

We read Genesis and Revelation as one unified story of redemption. Torah is not abolished in Messiah — it is fulfilled. We study the weekly Torah portion because the whole Bible points to Yeshua, and we want to see all of it.

🤝

United in Messiah

We believe the "dividing wall" between Jew and Gentile has been broken down in Yeshua (Ephesians 2:14). Jewish and Gentile believers are not identical, but they are one — one body, one Spirit, one Messiah, one hope.

The Aaronic Blessing

יְבָרֶכְךָ יְהוָה וְיִשְׁמְרֶךָ

“The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make His face shine on you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn His face toward you and give you peace.”

— Numbers 6:24–26

This ancient blessing, spoken in Hebrew at the close of every Shabbat service, is a living thread connecting our congregation to the people of Israel across three thousand years.
